The Culinary Journal

Terms of Use

Last updated: May 2025  ·  Effective immediately

By creating an account or using The Culinary Journal, you agree to these terms. Please read them — they are written in plain language and they matter.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of The Culinary Journal website located at theculinaryjournal.site. By using the site you confirm you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

We may update these terms from time to time. We will announce material changes on the homepage. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.

2. Who May Use This Site

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm you are 13 or older. We accept registrations from users worldwide. Registration requires a Gmail or Outlook email address.

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. Your Account

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. Your username is publicly visible on recipes you submit. Your email address is private and never shown publicly.

We reserve the right to suspend or deactivate accounts that violate these terms, are inactive, or are used for abusive purposes. We do not delete accounts — they are deactivated.

4. Submitting Recipes — Your Responsibilities

When you submit a recipe, you confirm that:

  • It is either your own original creation, or you have properly credited the source
  • You have not reproduced substantial portions of a copyrighted recipe verbatim without permission
  • The source URL and author credit you provide are accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • You are not submitting content that is harmful, abusive, or illegal

By submitting a recipe, you grant The Culinary Journal a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and distribute that recipe on the site. You retain ownership of original content you create.

We review all submitted recipes before publishing. We may decline, edit for formatting, or request changes before a recipe goes live. We will notify you of the decision.

5. Recipe Attribution & Preservation Policy

The Culinary Journal takes recipe attribution seriously. Every recipe on the site carries permanent credit to its source — regardless of whether the original link is still live.

  • Source URLs are stored permanently and never removed, even if the link breaks
  • If a source link goes offline, we note: "This original source no longer exists. Recipe preserved with full credit to the original author."
  • Original author names are stored forever
  • If a chef or author requests removal, their recipe is archived (set to private) — not deleted. This preserves the integrity of source credits across the database
  • If you submitted a recipe that belongs to someone else and they request its removal, we will archive it and notify you

6. Photo Uploads

You may upload photos to accompany your recipes. By uploading a photo you confirm:

  • You own the photo or have permission to use it
  • The photo does not contain identifiable people without their consent
  • The photo does not contain inappropriate, harmful, or illegal content

For recipes sourced from books, magazines, or other printed materials: the original photo is stored privately and is never shown publicly. Only a food photo you provide (or an AI-generated image, when that feature is available) will be shown publicly.

We reserve the right to remove photos that violate these terms.

7. Event and Guest Data

When using the Table Planner feature, you may enter names and dietary information for third parties (your guests). By doing so, you confirm:

  • You have permission or a legitimate reason to store that person's information
  • You will not use this feature to store data about people without reasonable grounds

You can delete any guest record or entire event at any time. You are responsible for the guest data you store.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You must not use The Culinary Journal to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent content
  • Reproduce another person's copyrighted recipes or content without attribution or permission
  • Harass, impersonate, or harm other users
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Use automated tools to scrape, harvest, or collect data from the site
  • Interfere with or disrupt the site's infrastructure or security
  • Distribute spam, malware, or harmful code
  • Circumvent any access controls or authentication

9. Intellectual Property

The Culinary Journal name, logo, design, typography, and original content are owned by us and protected by copyright. You may not reproduce or use them without permission.

Recipes and content submitted by users remain the property of their respective authors. We hold a licence to display them on this site as described in Section 4.

The watermark "The Culinary Journal" appears on all printed recipe cards. This is a condition of using the print feature and may not be removed.

10. Nutritional and Health Information

⚠️ Nutritional information on this site is calculated automatically using the Open Food Facts database and is approximate only. It is not a substitute for professional dietary or medical advice. Do not rely on it for medical, dietary, or allergy management decisions. Always consult a qualified health professional.

Allergy and dietary flags on recipes are provided as a guide only and may not be complete or accurate. Always verify ingredients yourself if you have a serious allergy or health condition.

11. Disclaimers

The Culinary Journal is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the site will be available at all times, that content will be free of errors, or that submitted recipes are safe for consumption by all individuals.

We are not responsible for:

  • The accuracy of recipes submitted by users
  • Any injury, illness, or damage resulting from following a recipe
  • Loss of locally stored data (grocery lists, pantry, meal plans)

12. Limitation of Liability
